This is the latest in my series of "Dangermousie ranks all the kdramas she has ever seen" posts. I have seen over 70 kdramas and, being addicted to ranking, have decided to rank them all. (For previous posts go here.) Below the cut are dramas ranked 50-41: these are entertaining dramas worth a look: they are flawed but a nice time investment nontheless. All the dramas behind the cut are dramas I like. Some of them I like a lot. Once again, I have either finished these dramas entirely or finished enough to make up my own mind. complacent( Generals, gigolos, gangsters and gun runners under the cut: my 52-43 dramas ) Until next time, amigas!

In between everything else, I forgot to mention that I am now through ep 14 of Winter Sonata. bouncyThe Secondary Guy is officially most HATEFUL MAN in Dramaland. Seriously. WTF? In addition to his attempted rape of heroine which we witnessed earlier (stopped only by Heroine managing to run away), he has since: 1. Tried to force her into getting married by publicly announcing it in front of all her friends, family, and hundreds of strangers. After she told him they should break up, she has no desire to marry him, and loves another. 2. When she still walked out, he went on a hunger strike to 'win' her back, i.e. to guilt her into staying with him because 'otherwise OMG I might die.' What???????? (At that point, her friends and mother lost me forever, because they told Heroine she was a heartless hussy for ditching Psycho, as opposed to telling him off for being a drama queen. He is only suffering because he is making himself do so. UGH). 3. When she finally came back to him because he was 'dying' without her (side note: Hero told her to go visit Psycho because he saw how torn she was, and she asked 'what if I go back to him?' he said even that is better than seeing her in pain. This is how a man who loves someone should behave, as opposed to becoming monster of selfishness), he gleefully took her back even though knowing she loves another. 4. However, being his charming self, shortly after, he ditched her on the street in a fit of jealousy, forcing her to make her way home (she does not love you, she came back to you out of misplaced sense of duty, get used to it. She doesn't bring it up, even though she should). 5. He also announced, out of the blue, that they are going abroad to study. Nice of you not to consult the Heroine first, Psycho. 6. He found out Hero is not only the current love of Heroine, but is actually her first love who she believed died tragically, and whom she mourned for ten years (Hero had amnesia, it's a kdrama). His reaction? Do everything in his power to prevent Heroine from finding out, tell Hero (who also just realized that) to stay away because if he loved her, he wouldn't hurt her (excuse me, Mr. Wannabe Rapist Who Guilts Woman Staying With Him When She Is Plainly Miserable, whaaaaat? If you didn't treat her as a thing, I might be more inclined to believe you. Also, how would having man she loves be with her be miserable). 7. Currently Hero is in the hospital due to saving Heroine from a speeding truck, shortly after she found out who he was and ran after him. I shudder to see what Psycho would come up with next. If I were the Heroine, I'd watch her OTP's IV lines and meds, because Psycho could totally yank or poison them. UGH. HATE. BURNING HATE. (the icon is chosen because I want enraged Ho Gae to stab Other Guy of WS to death in Ho Gae's spiffy red-tent-of-crazy).

DIEDIEDIEDIEDIEDIE, you scumbag ATTEMPTED RAPIST!!!!! busy*die now please* I have never hated a Secondary Guy the way I hate the one in Winter Sonata. Quite a find, that one. Unreasonably jealous, guilt-tripping, dissatisfied, manipulative, demeaning, whiny, self-pitying, with violent tendencies, and yeah...attempted rapist! DIE. And he is shocked, shocked, shocked when Heroine wants to break up with him after this and gets all 'how dare you' and righteously indignant. And then tries every means possible to force her into marriage. What a charmer. Did I mention he tells Hero that he (Secondary Guy) is not immoral, unlike Hero. I mean, what's a little attempted rape now and then. Hero's worst crime? To break up with his gf when he realized he didn't love her any more. Clearly, Mr. Attempted Rapist is a fine judge of moral character. One one hand, we have Bae Yong Joon, who seems to have figured out the concept that if you love somebody, you want their happiness, even if it might hurt you (I love it when he tells Heroine that he will abide by her decision even if it's not him but other guy). Oh, and before we forget it, is Bae Yong Joon. On other hand, we have Attempted Rapist Adjusshi. What a choice! Seriously, I have never seen such a loathsome personality. I mean, about the most benign thing he does is rant at the Heroine who is injured and in a hospital (because it's all about him, of course) and leaves the sick woman by herself. The guy who picks her up that next morning is not him but BYJ. I repeat. A fucking attempted rapist. DIE.

Am currently at the airport, watching Winter Sonata. It's hard not to cry in public :p. (Am in middle of ep 6) Choi Ji Woo is marvelous, whenever she cries or is hurt, I want to punch whoever caused it, even if it is /gasp/ Bae Yong Joon. The scene in ep 6 where she wa tipsy in his apt and thought he was her first love and he thought she was scamming (courtesy of secondary girl) and was coldly horrible to her...hate! Even if all his assumptions are totally reasonable, nobody hurts Choi Ji Woo and lives! I can't wait until he finds out the truth...there better be angst. I love the otp (BYJ/CJW) with unholy passion. Love. I hate secondary girl so much though. Even giving her benefit of the doubt that she doesn't know or believe that BYJ is the same guy CJW loved in school (because that is incredibly awful...they loved each other and believed him dead) she is an evil bat, taking pleasure in cjw's small gestures of misery, trying to convince byj (her bf) that cjw is creepy copycat after what secondary girl has. And why? If she believes byj is just a lookalike, does she really think her bf will fall for someone just because he looks like the girl's ex or that girl would ditch her fiance just because guy she just met looks like ex? Not to mention it is brutal to flaunt him around in front of cjw. In case she forgot, cjw and her bf didn't break up, he was killed...seeing a lookalike must be beyond traumatic.

Since Powerful Opponents made me think about drama endings. Now, we all know about those infamous ‘last minute unhappy endings’ which seem to be tacked on to inflict utmost misery (Glass Slippers’ infamous ending, I am looking at you) or those dramas which would pretty clearly end happily as are giggle-fest or unhappily, as they involve hot people with terminal illnesses. coldBut how about that rare yet delightful category of dramas: surprising happy endings. Not ones that could have gone either way (Smile Again, QSS) but ones you did not expect at all. Behind the cut are Dangermousie’s Top Dozen Most Surprising Happy Endings. ( My Dozen Here )

Things that make me happy: cold1. Daemul isn’t scrapped. The air date has been pushed to October, which I can deal with. Hopefully they will iron things out by then. 2. The fangirls in the JJH thread on soompi. They are discussing possible kissing scenes in Antique and are torn between horror (oh noez! Their oppa might be kissing another guy!) and delight (at least it’s not one of those icky girls). Heeee. I really wish this was a drama and not a movie, but oh well, beggars can’t be chosers. Still, 16 episodes of JJH reliving cake-related childhood abduction trauma and dealing with advances of the hot Waffle Sunki, whose sexy gay love he rejected in high-school, would have been pretty awesome. 3. Yup, Winter Sonata is definitely being made into an anime. ![]() Heee. 4. Powerful Opponents has certainly become the drama of the spring for me. Who would have thought…I wasn’t very familiar with/attached to any of the leads before it started. Especially amusing is that I mainly checked it out to see Lady Bodyguard and President’s Son hook up but ended up the hugest bodyguards!shipper. Heeeee. Oh, Gwan Pil :) 5. Even though I want Gwan Pil/Young Joo with a scary level of fangirling, I do like Su Ho as a character, and adore Lee Jin Wook, who plays him. I just don’t want him with Young Joo. So imagine my delight when I found he was in a drama where he did get the girl, last year’s Someday. The plot sounds delightful. Our Heroine is a reserved manga artist, who doesn’t really believe in romantic love much. She comes to Korea and meets Secondary Guy, a manga fanboy who is smitten and decides he is in love at first sight, not even noticing the cool Secondary Girl who has loved him for years. Secondary Guy hires our Hero, Lee Jin Wook, a private investigator with a tragic past, to follow his dream girl. And it goes from there… Happy endings for everyone abound, so what’s not to love. I don’t think fansubbers ever did this drama, but a DVD with subs is available from YA. I mean, look at the cute MV! 5. PO is winding up next week. But luckily, I have a new drama fixation to take its place…Iljimae. And speaking of, ep two subs are out! I have only watched the first half of first ep and I like it a LOT. I don’t love it as much as Hong Gil Dong, but it’s early days yet, and in any event, HGD pinged my fiction loves uniquely. Oddly, I can also see why it’s getting better ratings: it’s a lot more traditional in its approach than HGD. So yes, Iljimae. I am sure my like will transform to LOVE as soon as poor little Iljimae will lose his privileged existence and his family at the age of eight (???), grow up to be Lee Jun Ki and begin his awful yet photogenic torment and suffering. Also, any clue which of the two girls is his OTP? I don’t mind either way. One way we get so beloved by me trope of aristocrat-slave (though would Iljimae be considered a slave? I mean, he was born upper class. But then Ha Ji Won lost all her aristocratic status when her family was executed in Damo, and became a slave…so.) Plus, that would mean he falls for the girl whose Dad killed his family, thus giving me shades of Time Between Dog and Wolf. However, if we don’t get that, I don’t mind a bit.It would also be fun if he hooked up with thieving peasant girl, sort of like Legend. I already got aristocrat/slaveOTP with Hong Gil Dong and Damo and it was all so perfect, plus I can have my fill of angsty avenger/gently brought lady otp angst with Strongest Chil Woo which is coming out later this summer. Also, this way I can have a ‘I am in love with my not!sibling’ OTP of aristocrat girl and Iljimae’s nemesis, which would also make me happy.

(I have discovered dramabeans' blog and these news/pics are taken from there) contentAdorableness of the day (Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun Hye in Coffee Prince): ![]() 1. Apparently they make a Lee Jun Ki doll. Yes. ( Picture of said doll ) I am having thoughts (which I will NOT carry out) of obtaining one and making it bond with my SRK doll. LOL. After all, the real article in unavailable. Still, here are a few gorgeous pics of the flesh-and-blood prototype. ( LJK hotness ) 2. They are planning to turn Winter Sonata into an animated series. Have your amnesia, snow, blindness and quasi-cest in cartoon form! Double LOL. Whaaaaa? Whyyyyy? For whooooooom? 3. Korean station SBS is planning to make a drama called Daemul, based on a hugely popular adult manhwa the plot of which is a male escort seducing a female President. As in President of Korea. Oh, see. That is why I love dramas. Nobody in their right mind would make a show like that here. The closest we got in the broadcast of the British cute mini 'Me and Mrs Jones' about a tabloid reporter and female PM (with Robson Green). 4. Speaking of hotness, I love this pic of Waffle Sunki ( pic here ) 5. A few more hot men and women. ( Pics here ) Korea, for a relatively small country, you certainly provide a disproportionate number hours of amusement and fun and hotness for me.
| Nov. 1st, 2006 @ 02:03 pm Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake, Tatta Hitotsu No Koi, Emerald on the Roof, and Winter Sonata. Aaaangst! | |||

Finished Kamisama Mou Sukoshi Dake at around 2am. GOD. ( Spoilery meta ) I have also watched ep 3 of Tatta Hitotsu No Koi and my squee cannot be contained. ( ep 3 thoughts ) And speaking of things I can’t wait for. Once I finish Pride (next on my hit list), I think I just might watch Winter Sonata, the very famous Korean dorama which is to kdramas what Meteor Garden is to twdramas: the mother of them all. It’s the usual kdorama story of lost childhood love, amnesia, and very pretty images. It was apparently crazy psycho popular in Japan (saw posters for it all over the place in front of Panchinko Parlors for some reason). Actually, before I saw a single dorama, I posted an article on the WS phenomenon and on the lead in it, Bae Yong-Joon (who was also the lead in the very different Untold Scandal) in this entry. Funny how things turn out. ( A couple of WS youtube vids behind the cut ) And another dorama I am anticipating very much is Wallace Huo’s Emerald on the Roof which started airing in September, and has recently been picked up for subbing. Why? I adore well-made twdrama the best, Wallace Huo is gorgeous, and then there are the plot and stills: ( Synopsis ) ( Some Stills )

Full House OMG. ( ep 8 babbling ) sleepyAfter seeing the following MVs for 1 Litre of Tears ( MVs behind cut ) I cannot wait to see the dorama. But even the first MV made me cry. I think this one might overload my angst capacity. OMG. Can't wait. Discovering doramas is as giddy as discovering Bollywood was three or four years back. There is the whole other world out there and so many things to watch. Of course, this also means that my watching list is about a mile long and like a person with too many cool things around her, I cannot decide what to watch first and end up watching more than one dorama at a time and still running around with 'this one or this one or this one.' I know I should impose some kind of order, but even if I just finished the ones I am currently watching, I'd need to have some kind of order. It's overwhelming and great. And new 'must watch this second' doramas get added to the list every day. ( My watchlist ramblings ) QUOTE OF THE DAY: Cinderella lost her parents when she was young. And she was tortured by the jerk Lee Young-Jae. (Han Ji-Eun's reimagining of Cinderella in Full House).
