My recent resurgence of interest in jdramas (after it being dormant for over a year) can be attributed to incredibly high-minded motives:![]() Far removed from any shallow considerations, I watch them for purely intellectual reasons only: ![]() Ahhhh, I feel enlightened. I currently have only limited net access (don't worry, a temporary thing) so won't be able to get to comments till tomorrow. Sorry guys! awake1. Jin has done an anan photoshoot? I don't even like him (he looks more like a girl than I do!) but am curious. Link? Mainly so I can verify he is indeed a he. 2. I have watched ep 1 of Otomen with subs. GLORIOUSNESS. Epic gloriousness. 3. Apparently they are turning Zettai Kareshi (Absolute Boyfriend) into a kdrama. YESSS. With the heroine a 30-yr-old who gets dumped and reacts by ordering a hot, expensive sexbot. Like we all do. I adore the manga, didn't care for the jdrama, so am excited at this. From my perspectve, it can only be a good thing - it's not as if there is an adaptation I love already out there. At the very worst, it won't be any worse than jdrama, only with hotter men and more delicious angst, and at best it will actually give me an adaptation I like. Any takers for who should play the perfect-sex-candy-dream-bot? If she is ordering someone her own age, I am going with Song Seung Heon, otherwise known as the hottest man in Asia as per yours truly. He'll be free for a drama, too. If we are going slightly younger, the inhumanly beautiful Hyun Bin (I think he's in his later 20s?) He's also an amazing actor, so. And if we are going for way younger, Lee Min Ho - give him a chance to be in a good manga adaptation for once. Joo Ji Hoon was born to play this role, but alas... ( Gents in question ) We'll see. 4. I am so predictable. I tried Tamra the Island and thought it was the worst drama I have ever seen. But | |||

It's Friday, so it's "good-looking man" time! (Yeah, yeah, whatever, I just made that up, go ahead and complain). First we have Jang Hyuk (Chuno!!!) looking quite elegantly elegiac: ![]() ( Some more ) Then we have Lee Min Ho. I ended up loathing his character in Boys Over Flowers, but the guy is undeniably gorgeous and also did the best he could with a horrific script, making the thing watchable for episodes after is should have stopped being so. ![]() Have a nice weekend, everyone :) | |||

Indeed. awake![]() I don't think I have ever seen drama fanservice this blatant. Episode 2 of Dream (which I am halfway into) confirms my previous opinion - Dream is not a great drama. Nor is it a classy one - it is clearly pretty trashy. However, if you define "good" drama as drama that can keep you entertained, than Dream is definitely good - I have a notoriously short attention span but Dream managed to keep me very entertained so far. I haven't fast-forwarded at all, which is pretty impressive - many much better dramas fail to do that. ( Enter here for more caps of great meaning ) | |||

I am halfway through my first ever Telugu movie, Desamuduru, thanks to ![]() Allu Arjun, where have you been all my life? Your combination of soulful eyes, mighty muscles, and total inability to keep a shirt has won my heart utterly and completely. I think I just had a hormonal attack from which I may never recover. ![]() See? This movie is full of symbolism and metaphor: ![]() ( Enter here for more reasons of deep spiritual value ) All that and a happy ending, bring it on! A hero who takes time out from bloodbaths for justice in order to engage in a little nun-wooing and dance numbers is my kind of man. I see Telugu cinema and I shall become better acquainted. Oh yes, my precious. (And by 'precious', of course I mean the torso of chiseled fanservice). | |||

bouncy![]() I have just watched episode 1 of Otomen and it is every bit as adorable as the manga it's based on. It's funny but it's also lovely and with heart (something I find lacking in such jdrama adaptations as Hana Kimi) and not so far removed from reality that I lose interest (like Mei-chan No Shitsuji). Basically, one ep in, it's rather a delight and the casting is very manga-spot on. In case you somehow missed my earlier summary, here is what Otomen is about: Asuka (Okada Masaki) was a boy who always liked girly things - baking, sewing, cute stuffed animals, the works. However, once his father left the family in order to become a woman (literally), in order to make his mother happy Asuka has managed to supress all these unmanly tastes - he's become quite macho - he is a national kendo champion and will easily take you apart in a fight. He has a fanclub of swooning girls, school bullies flee at the sight of him, and underclassmen want to emulate him. One problem - he is still a 'girlyman' at heart. And then he meets Ryo (Kaho), a girl who is an utter tomboy, and it is love at first sight for Asuka. So, do opposites attract? And even if so, how would Ryo deal with finding out that the cool guy everyone is in awe of is actually a guy who loves girly things - an otomen. ( Summary of episode 1 in caps ) | |||

Mobster drama Friend is indubitably art. Hmmm. First an interviewer fixating on Lee Byung Hun's 'chiseled torso' and now this. Korean interviews are a very different beast :P (It was not in an interview with Hyun Bin himself, thankfully, that this quote popped up). | |||

I am even *gasp* unspoiled. content2. ![]() If I find Song Seung Heon the sexiest kdrama actor (other contenders were Lee Byung Hun, Jang Hyuk, and Song Il Gook), Hyun Bin is, undisputedly (now that Joo Ji Hoon is out of the running, alas) the most beautiful (runners up are Lee Jun Ki, Bae Yong Joon and Ji Sung). Whoa. I also have a category for ridiculously charming won by Kang Ji Hwan (with Gong Yoo the runner-up) because I have too much time on my hands and a need to categorize. 3. Speaking of Ji Sung, I was watching and enjoying Swallow the Sun but my interest in it went into OVERDRIVE when I found out that Ji Sung's character becomes a flunkie of this rich unscrupulous family and has to do whatever they say. His latest assignment is to win Sung Yuri for the rich messed-up son of said family who has an unhealthy fixation on the girl. So he has to do it, even though she's the girl he's always been in love with. I LOVE THIS SORT OF THING. ![]() How come nobody on my flist is watching this? ( Gorgeous trio ) 4. | Nov. 20th, 2008 @ 03:08 pm On Bollywood's gayest movie and most beautiful woman | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Current Mood:
Earlier in the week, I went and saw Dostana, the hilarious, HILARIOUS Bollywood comedy about two somewhat immature guys (Abhishek Bachchan and John Abraham) who pretend to be a gay couple in order to rent an apartment of their dreams from a sexy sexy landlady (Priyanka Chopra) who lives there as well and thus isn't keen on having straight and single men be her roommates. content![]() I don't remember the last time I laughed so hard. I was nearly in tears. There was nothing not to love about the movie: the message was very progressive (especially for Bollywood) both about gay men, women who want to do more than *gasp* marry but love their career instead, and about importance of friendship. It was also hilarious. I think Abhishek nearly stole the movie, but I was even more impressed by Priyanka, mainly because I already think Abhishek is a good actor but I am iffy on her, and this was the first role I truly loved her in: she was funny, grounded, ambitious - a real person. John was overshadowed by Abhishek, IMO, but I liked him in the role nontheless. And the re-enactment of KKHH rain dance did win my heart, probably because it's my favorite Bollywood scene ever. Kirron Kher and Boman Irani were both marvelous as the old-fashioned mother having to cope with her son's gayness and a very femmy but powerful magazine editor, respectively. And I might be in the minority but I really liked Bobby Deol, as the man who woos Priyanka mainly by being a really really good guy. I don't find him particularly good-looking, but his character was a total sweet-heart and after roles like this and Jhoom Barabar Jhoom I think I might begin to actually *gasp* look forward to him being in movies I watch. And if I were single, I'd marry his character in a heart-beat. ( Spoilery comments ) One last comment - I loved that though the movie was hilarious, there were emotional scenes that (to me) had real heart. That's what a good comedy needs. And for those of you who like that sort of thing (you know who you are :D), yes, there is a guy/guy kiss. Heh. Also, I am amused that it's the two men who are in relationships with Bollywood's most beautiful women who play these characters - Abhishek is married to Aishwarya Rai and John's long term squeeze is Bipasha Basu. Maybe that is what made the movie 'safe' for more conservative film-goers (because it's enjoying good business). But for me, that's an extra amusing thing. And not related: Abhishek's better half Aishwarya just confirmed that she signed onto my favorite Bolly director's (and her Svengali) Sanjay Leela Bhansali's next, to star opposite Hrithik Roshan. Be still my heart. If for nothing else than that the dancing will be incredible. I do think Aiswarya is the most beautiful woman in Bollywood. Look: ![]() ( More from that Vogue photoshoot ) | |||

Still hideously Buffy-deprived (Filmi Girl and I are watching more tomorrow. If not, I give in and will watch by myself :P), I decided to check out a couple of eps of Bones I had on my hard-drive. cheerfulIt's not really anything I'd watch devotedly as I am not big into procedurals, but as an occasional thing, it's not bad. More importantly, it's a pretty painless way to spend the evening: watching hot burly men and hot pretty women reenact fanfic scenarios in between boring procedural talk. I think some former fanfic writers write some of these scripts as the two eps I've watched had (a) the leading pair have to go undercover and dress-up as a couple for nebulous reasons. Heeee; and (b) heroine gets buried alive and hero has to find her and dig her out. I approve. Fanfic as show scenario Number 1: Dressing Up, Bare-Knuckle Boxing and Fake Coupling. Oh, make out already! ![]() ( Fanfic as show scenario Number 1: Dressing Up, Bare-Knuckle Boxing and Fake Coupling. Yes please. ![]() ( Fanfic scenario Number 2: Evil murderer-kidnapper takes Bones and Booth has 12 hours to rescue her while angsting photogenically. Ultimately, it's a big squee of approval from my id. | |||

Current Mood:
Night-time: mellow![]() Day-time: ![]() What do they have in common? Well, there is THE YUM. I have watched episodes 5 and 6 of Iljimae and they were most excellent, but for now I want to concentrate just on Shi Ho, who seems (most happily) express his angst through shirtlessness. I live in hope that one day he will get so angsty, he will drop trou too :) So yes, eye candy post is courtesy of Iljimae's Shi Ho, who might have some questionable character traits, but has an unquestionable hot bod and a devotion to his 'sister' which borders on Tree of Heaven territory. ( More delicious caps here ) In other news, today, I continued my watch of two dramas, one Taiwanese and one Korean, which definitely prove, all over again, that when it comes to fictional men (just as in RL), my favorites are the well-adjusted sweet ones. The first is the Taiwanese bubble-gum delight Smiling Pasta, best described as Full House on crack (I've described it plenty elsewhere, so just click on the tag if you are curious). The hero, He Qun, is an incredibly nice guy, whose biggest problem is a little aloofness and reluctance to expose himself emotionally. But he is so nice to the heroine, and the best part is, he is nice before he falls for her...he is nice because he is nice. The other is the delicious Sweet 18 with Lee Dong Gun and Han Ji Hye. The thing that strikes me the most about this drama (other than its sheer adorableness. If you want plot summary, just click on the tag, I am sure I did plenty) is how well-adjusted and decent both the hero and the heroine are. Sure, she is a bit immature (but then she is 18! She is not immature for her age) and sure, he is a bit too fixated on being the 'good family son/grandson' but they are both incredibly kind, good people. That is why whenever they fight, they make up rather soon: he feels bad for yelling and she does, too. She understands that he might sometimes be in an awful mood and she shouldn't push, and he understands he shouldn't have lost his temper. They apologize and they explain. Etc. Sweet 18 is a story about strangers pressured into an arranged marriage (well, he is pressured, she is delighted because she is crushing on him) and how they grow to love each other, and how they prove to be compatible despite all their obvious differences (he is a young upperclass prosecutor, she is a recent high school graduate and girl-gang leader). And I love that. I think, ultimately, that is why all the plots-and-plans of Evil Ex of Hero have so far come to naught. She is so lacking in decency herself, she fails to understand that basic principle in the character of the man she ditched and now potentially wants back. She manipulates an evening so Heroine is stuck elsewhere and he is at the theater by himself and the ex has a seat next to him? He walks out. And when she tries to emotionally manipulate or whine, he explains that it's nothing against her, but he doesn't think his wife would like it if he spent time with his ex (and the best part, he is not madly in love with his wife, yet, or anything). And later, he looks for his wife because she is waiting elsewhere and a super-adorable scene follows. She drags the wife shopping and connives her into buying a really expensive suit for the husband, in the hopes he will have a huge fight? He makes the wife return the suit but he isn't mad because she did it for him, and she charms him into keeping the tie and there is an adorable tie-tying scene. Etcetcetc. | |||
