Just got my hands on the granddaddy of all kdramas, Eyes of Dawn (1991). coldCredits: War, occupation, and comfort women - not subjects kdramas have addressed much since. It sounds like this famous drama could be something I will find good. In another universe from serious issues of EoD, I am planning to start deliciously trashy Bad Love. How can I resist. How? Is it hot here or is it just me?

Since Powerful Opponents made me think about drama endings. Now, we all know about those infamous ‘last minute unhappy endings’ which seem to be tacked on to inflict utmost misery (Glass Slippers’ infamous ending, I am looking at you) or those dramas which would pretty clearly end happily as are giggle-fest or unhappily, as they involve hot people with terminal illnesses. coldBut how about that rare yet delightful category of dramas: surprising happy endings. Not ones that could have gone either way (Smile Again, QSS) but ones you did not expect at all. Behind the cut are Dangermousie’s Top Dozen Most Surprising Happy Endings. ( My Dozen Here )

I do not think there is any drama out there that can top the first meeting of the OTP in Bad Love for sheer WTF/o_O factor. Seriously. I've racked my brains and can't think of one. contentI mean, Our Heroine first lays eyes on Our Hero when she (burdened with a heavy cello case) rushes to catch the elevator into which he and his current girlfriend have stepped into. So far, so normal, right? WRONG. Because the Hero and his gf have gotten into the elevator to visibly, clearly, and unmistakably engage in elevator sex (did I mention the elevator has glass doors?) They slam the door before she gets in and proceed to ride it up (in every sense of the word) as she looks on. o_O (See vid here). Now, that's a first meeting you don't forget in a hurry. Though I do wonder how mentally damaged is our Heroine in the first place, as when she is yelling at them to hold the elevator, she is clearly seeing them all over each other in the elevator already. I mean, talk about tactless or spoilsport. I am sure she can wait a minute for the next elevator up. Does she really want to be stuck in an elevator with a pair of horny exhibitionists? So, any other very WTF first meetings between Hero and Heroine? MISA is pretty awesome in that respect (he meets her, after she's been robbed, and eventually takes her to a bar where he sells her to a stipjoint owner) but Bad Love still trumps. And the delicious Capital Scandal, with her stealing his suitcase. But nothing like this. Please give me WTF examples, I crave them... :)

Is anyone watching Bad Love? It seems like one of those dramas I'd love. Love triangles, illegitimate angsty woobies, etc etc. chipperOur Heroine, a cellist, falls in love with Secondary Lead, a son-in-law of a tycoon, only to find out the man lied to her, and is married. That relationship obviously ends. Some time later, her paths cross with Our Hero (played by hunky Kwon Sang Woo), the half-brother of her previous boyfriend's wife. KSW is an artist with a lot of issues, a huge chunk stemming from his evil family and the fact that he is illegitimate and has been made to feel it all his life. Oh, and his first love dumped him in some horrifying manner I have not yet found out about. ![]() The chances of hero and/or heroine dying in the snow/of cancer/by poison? Not so great, which is already a score. Chances of manpain and tears? Exxxxxxcellent. And just look at this gorgeous shippy MV: Or this. Phew. It's elevator sex with KSW and his ex. Ohmymmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I didn't know kdramas could do this! ( Behind cut ) ( And bed scene with heroine and secondary male lead ) ( MV ) ( Trailer for drama ) A note of warning: the subs seem to have stopped, as WITHS2 is having its 'put our foot down' moment and is saying it won't continue subbing until all of their hardsubs are removed from youtube/veoh/mysoju. Obviously their right and a fair request but in which case, I say 'good luck ever seeing WITHS2 subs again' as I doubt they can control the internet. I am not unduly worried to existence of fansubbed kdramas in general as a new sub group will form if they go away for good (point in fact, a new group formed to sub Hong Gil Dong and Robbers. I was amused to note that suddenly WITHS2 came back to life and said that they will sub just those two without lifting the moratorium in general. LOL at the power politics), and in any event, a lot of kdramas get proper releases with subs. But, as relates to this drama: to be fair, I don't know if BL will be released with subs officially as I don't think it's a huge hit. ETA: Apparently WITHS2 just released a huge amount of subs for their current dramas, Bad Love included, as an anniversary present. So now that this hurdle is over with, go watch! :)
