An upcoming CW show I am super-excited about!

I can't believe I forgot about this one, but it's just as well as I am going to give it its own post.

CW's Star-Crossed. It's a star-crossed human/alien teen romance, which is an automatic sell to me because it makes me think of my beloved Roswell.

Though with the whole “aliens are discriminated against and segregated and now a few of them will be allowed to attend a human high school under guard to protect them while protesters yell at them,” does anyone else wish they’d make this show not scifi but a period thing set in the 1960s American South and the main couple be interracial instead of human-alien (because that is clearly what they are going for/referencing/inspired by and might as well go for it without allusions).

But yeah, I am so there, for the set-up, the Roswell nostalgia and the ridiculously pretty cast.

OK, I pretty much never post on LJ any more (I've moved to tumblr and goodreads, same user name) but I felt like making my 'here is what I will be trying in the 2013-14 TV season' post here for some reason.

So, let's see.

Arrow (CW) - I miss Oliver and his angsty dysfunction and his delicious muscles. I am way behind though and need to catch up.

Beauty and the Beast (CW) - they are finally doing some romance, so I will probably tune in.

Black Sails (Starz): pirates!!!

Defiance (SyFy) - duh.

Dracula (NBC) - sex on legs that is Jonathan Rhys Myers as Dracula in Victorian England? I think the trailer made me faint:

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (ABC) - I dumped OUAT as it got boring and with too many characters, but the trailer looks delicious:

Reign (CW) - CW wants its own Tudors, aka Mary Queen of Scots goes to France. I read the script for the pilot and there is no resemblance to historical events or characters (they are making the feeble, teeny Francis II into a CW stud! One of Mary's ladies in waiting is named Lola! The future Henri III is referred to as 'Hank', and there is a sexy illegitimate half-brother of Francis to compete for Mary's affections, since clearly CW loves a Vampire Diaries formula!) I fail to see why they don't just invent a country/characters out of wholesale cloth and run with it. BUT! Period costumes! Gorgeous people! Gorgeous shirtless people! That hot guy that was Culpepper from the Tudors as the sexy halfbrother (presumably with more clothes on this time)! Catherine di Medici poisoning people and Nostradamus prophesying all over the place! I am there.

The Walking Dead (AMC) - I am currently in the middle of the first season, and I am loving it, gruesome though it may be. It's smart and character-driven. I am sure I will catch up by the time s4 airs.

The White Queen (Starz) - My most anticipated. Someone has made a show about Elizabeth Woodville, Anne Neville and Margaret Beaufort (and Edward IV, Richard III and Henry VII, by extension). OMFG this is heaven and how did I end up in it? Please please do not make Richard III evil, is all I ask. Please!

Hanna and Caleb make me swoon in 2x08 of PLL

I think by now, Hanna/Caleb are my favorite OTP in this show.

I loved it when Hanna took Caleb away when she thought the cops were tracking him and tried to protect him. She is terrified he is going to run (her family situation has given her understandable abandonment issues) and I loved it when he told her he wouldn't, because that is what she needs to hear so badly. And she tells him she will run with him. Woobies! She really needs someone like Caleb, someone who will stay for her, and he really needs someone like her, someone who protects him and cares for him and loves him, to whom he can belong.

The coda to this episode was both lyrical and heartbreaking - Caleb and Hanna sitting there, watching a perfect family from outside in, both deprived of it in different ways and longing and angry and lost, but still together.

Pretty Little Liars, s2, eps 2-7

Look at them, doing their own version of Say Anything - with the super-brainy girl who is probably off to Harvard or similar and the blue-collar guy. Also, when he said there is one thing that is keeping him in Rosewood - awwwww. Also, I don’t blame him for wanting to move out of Casa de Creepy asap. Something tells me once he gets enough $$$ together, his family shouldn’t expect him back for Thanksgivings and Christmases. Though seeing nobody in town wants to employ him, not sure how long that will take - really, he should totally move elsewhere - nobody in this town seems to have heard of long-distance relationships, but they totally work and that way he can actually be employed. Actually, that is true for Spencer as well - since the OTP seems to be members of ‘town thinks you are a possible creepy murderer’ club, they really would be better off elsewhere. There are schools and construction firms outside of Rosewood, honest.

Look at Spencer and Toby, starring in their own horror movie. :) Seriously, these totally look like horror or scifi movie stills, though thankfully minus a masked killer or flesh-eating aliens. And now I kinda want an AU fic where Spencer and Toby are a team investigating creepy supernatural events…

Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God. This was not only the most gorgeous kiss in this show, this is in the running for one of the most gorgeous on-screen kisses I have ever seen, period. Nobody does kissing scenes like Aria and Ezra. Nobody. It’s the irresistible combination of utter adoration and tenderness with all-consuming passion. The funny thing is overall I ship them much less than the other two ships but they have the best kissing scenes.

I have realized that I am capping every freaking single spoby scene. I can’t help it, they are just so perfect and awesome together. Though they’ve been awfully happy for a bunch of eps - I am getting worried with this show’s tendency to pull the rug from under its OTPs - the last time we saw an OTP this blissfully and interruption-free happy, it was Hanna and Caleb, and we all know what happened there.

Some ezria cuteness from 2.03. God, they make me smile. Though as happy as I am to see them being able to be open about their relationship, I keep thinking they aren’t entirely in the clear - she is still 17 and a prof dating a 17-yr-old is going to raise a few eyebrows outside of a Jane Austen novel.

Toby’s money situation must really be dire - the poor darling can’t even afford a shirt! (Well, it was either that or making Lady Chatterley’s Lover jokes). Heh. ABC Family = the new CW. And that’s a good thing :P

Toby: I love you so much.
Spencer: I wanted to say it first.
Me = dead body on the floor.
Though this scene made me totally torn between shippy glee (love confessions! kisses! she got him a truck! he is going to pay her back!) and utter horror (Spencer, pawning your sister’s ring is not good judgment. Even if you plan to get it back, you had to know A would interfere).
Confession time - every time the show tries to go mystery or creep-factor heavy I get bored. I don’t care about the A thing except as a McGuffin as the mystery doesn’t make much sense. But all the shippy/friendship/family scenes make me super happy.

I literally screamed when Caleb showed up again. I don’t know, somehow Hanna/Caleb are my happy place (well, recently, they were my angsty, weepy place, but you know…) And Hanna is slow to forgive but she is so going there, and I love how ridiculously intense and happy and relieved Caleb gets around her and just…the term ‘woobies’ was invented for them. Oddly, I am the most anxious about them out of all the OTPs because Hanna strikes me as the sweetest and most vulnerable and Caleb’s veneer of snarky uncaring about the world is just that - a veneer and paper-thin. I just want to put them in my pocket and protect them.

All of a sudden, I have developed an interest in Jason di Laurentis. Hmmm, I wonder why…

The writers of this show are clearly living in my brain, because Hanna and Caleb fake-dating to help Lucas out (and I love that they both totally want to help Lucas out - awwww) is the cutest, sweetest, funniest, shippiest thing ever. Also, I just love how perfectly attuned and in sync with each other they are. And the chemistry still crackles. Also, I was totally cracking up when Lucas’ date thought Hanna was hung up on Lucas and had Caleb over only to make Lucas jealous - I mean, she really must be sweet on Lucas to think many ladies would prefer Lucas over Caleb :P

I confess 2x05 was all about Hanna/Caleb for me. I especially loved the scene where Hanna’s Mom freaks out about not being able to reach her and goes on and on about how worried she was and you see how Caleb just dies a little inside because he’d love to have a parent figure to care for him like that (or in any way at all). Awwwww…I want him to move back into Hanna’s house and Hanna’s Mom to mother him.

Ummm, 2x05 gave me shippy confusion. On one hand, Aria and Ezra are happy and cute together, but on the other, Aria x Jason are totally pinging my angsty/woobie radar. Ummmm….Can I multiship?

Hanna v. Foster Mom. Heh. I totally love her pwning the lady and getting Caleb his money. (Also, clearly Caleb’s scale of ‘well, at least she doesn’t hit me = OK foster parent’ is way not good).

Bloody finally! The noises I was making were so high-pitched, they must have only been audible on special devices. Oh, and I love seeing them so happy, love love love it!

Shippy perfection in 2x06...

I love how functional Hanna/Caleb are together. I love that she tries to take care of his problems and the fact that he opens up to her the way he hasn't to anyone else (and she keeps his secret), but what really got me was the little "oh" when she told him she was home alone. I just want to squish them forever!

And I end on perfect cuteness. I am getting very nervous because they are happy - don't fuck them up, show, please please please!

Pretty Little Liars - s1, eps 21-22; s2, ep 1

I think by now it's pretty evident I don't care who/what A is and what he/she/it wants. I am in it for the girls and their friendships and ships and family. For all I care A could be a consortium of bored Dutch housewives having some weird fun, or zombie Alison out for brains. Whatever :)

I love how desperate Caleb is to talk to Hanna and how oddly vulnerable he seems. And I love the way Aria sticks up for her friend. But the main reason this scene has gotten capped was because of Aria's Mom's face when she thinks this is the boy Aria is dating. Because that is pretty much my face during every Caleb scene.

I don't like them being miserable - they are my happy shiny ship! Ezra/Aria are my comfort food one and Spencer/Toby is the angsty drama one. I need Hanna/Caleb to be my happy place! Oh, and the way they look at each other, and how he tries to apologize and...and...and. Make up for my sanity! The sweetly vulnerable queen bee and the boy with nowhere to go need to be together asap.

Every one of their scenes makes me love them more and more. Also, by now they seem to show their soulmatey status by color-coordinating :) Though honestly, show, they have enough obstacles without their parents telling them they shouldn’t see each other…

The whole sequence through these two eps of Caleb trying to get to Hanna and get a second chance - it's pretty much written just to my specs even if it did get me all horribly weepy. I don't know what got me more - the scene with Hanna's Mom, who is being wonderful (and a responsible adult!) and Caleb clearly wishing he had a Mom like that, or Mona (boo hiss!!!!) taking his note to give to Hanna but tearing it up and throwing it out - and he told Hanna he loved her in it!!! *sob sob sob* Or Hanna seeing him as he gets on the bus and not calling after him because she didn't get his note. Or the always-awesome Lucas bringing Caleb back because he found out about the note business and because he wants Hanna to be happy. Oh, hell, the very fact that Caleb came back - he has nothing to hold him in this town except for Hanna, but he came back for Hanna even if she doesn't seem to want him - because even a chance with her is worth it. It kills me kills me kils me.

Some Aria/Ezra cuteness. I confess by now I am losing interest in them compared to the awesomeness of the other ships.

Oh holy God. I thought I was going to hyperventilate right then and there. But the way he just stands there, not making a move, letting her pick whether to be seen with him or not. And the way she runs to him, not caring if everyone sees. And this is so huge - the logical Spencer not caring at all about the pros-and-cons, and Toby, the boy who has people cross the street when he approaches, having someone who so openly shows everyone she is his. I am having so many feelings, I could probably stockpile them. Though I do wonder if whoever locked Spencer in that teeny shed did it so she would get all emotionally unbalanced and thus forget caution and seek Toby out (because there is the whole issue with perception for her possible jury trial).

This is pretty much the last way a gal wants to see her boyfriend shirtless - being made to have sex with another girl. Spencer, you have my permission for a mindwipe. OK, let me see if I figured it out - Jenna was making Toby have sex with her (I sympathize with the lusting, Jenna, because he's really hot, but if you need to threaten him with rape charges to get him into bed, it isn't worth it), Ian the pervert was taping it, Ali found out about the taping and got pissed because she was in love with Ian and didn't want him to jerk off to other girls, so she blinded Jenna on purpose as a punishment (by making up that insane story and starting the fire). And then she blackmailed Toby to take the fall, blackmailed Jenna with the tape to keep quiet and also leave for good, and this way was planning to get Ian back all to herself. Jesus, the girl was a psycho. Also, all of this would have been avoided if the good people of the town used blinds. I mean, who thinks it's a good idea to be sexing your stepbrother in front of an open window?

OK, a hot guy with a book? That is pretty much nirvana, as far as I am concerned. :) I do love how she totally falls asleep in his arms/on his lap, despite all the stress from the plan to catch Ian that night, because she must feel utterly protected. Also, there was this exchange:
Spencer: "Look, I've never had a safe place to land. But now I feel like I do, so I want you to stay safe."
Toby: "If you need anything tonight, I'll be there for you."
Spencer: "I love knowing that."
Dangermousie: AWWWWWWWWW.

Bring on s2!!!

Spencer and Toby made me ridiculously happy in this ep. It helped that they were the only couple that did not make me groan in frustration. I did love how they managed to see each other, despite their families saying they can't, and how they just work together. Plus, cuddles!

And now we have entrant n1 in the driving me nuts sweepstakes. I honestly do not get why Aria is upset that Ezra had a serious girlfriend to whom he was engaged, a relationship that was over before Aria and Ezra met. And her constant freak out about it, to me, is an age thing. No matter how mature she is, she is a teenager. When you date in your thirties, you expect your significant other to have had some serious relationships before you (or even a marriage, who knows). Even in your twenties, the chances are, your partner is likely to have dated steadily before. But Aria is 17 (or 16?). So to her it's a huge huge deal. It's realistic but I wish they'd move on past it, because I am not 17 any more myself and so to me it's getting a bit much.

OK, I keep dwelling on the whole Jenna thing (side note - does it never occur to anyone in this show to lock their laptops?) Once again, the whole priorities thing comes up - Toby went to reform school and Jenna covered up for Alison and did all that other stuff because of the whole 'step-siblings who sleep with each other' thing. At least Toby's actions make some sense - he was clearly desperate to get away from Jenna by whichever means necessary, and was probably worried Jenna was going to say he raped her, but Jenna's actions are totally out of proportion - the way she treats that tape is as if it shows Jenna and Toby making WMDs in their room. Maybe it's because I watch kdramas and the Borgias, but why is it a huge thing - why is Jenna is willing to risk so much to get her hands on the tape? What did she think would happen to her if the tape surfaced? I mean, Jenna blackmailing Toby into sex is the problem, not the fact that he is her stepbrother - people do not get jailed for having sex with their step-siblings. And I am pretty sure blackmailing someone into sex is a crime, but realistically, chances of a prosecutor taking on that case are slim to nil. I guess her reputation is that important to Jenna but still - when people start getting murdered, perhaps a priority reorganization is in order. And the cop who is risking his career and committing a crime so as to protect Jenna from something which won't land her in jail? Is WTF...

May I say how much I love Lucas and how cool he is? Seriously, he went all the way to God know what to bring Caleb back and to let him know about the note, because he wants Hanna to be happy.

Entrant n2 in the 'they are driving me insane' category. I mean, I totally get Hanna feeling betrayed because she opened up to Caleb, but I want her to get over it soon. I mean, he didn't cheat on her or eat a baby. And he apologized and did the right thing as soon as he could.

But oh, God, they make me melt. Melt melt melt. I am not sure what I loved more:

Hanna: "You are not allowed to do that."
Caleb: "What?"
Hanna: "You are not allowed to look at like me like that"

Or Caleb telling Hanna: "Most of my life I've felt alone even when I was with people. That was until I met you."

Or his "If you let me, I know I would make it up to you. Because I love you."

You see why I desperately want her to take him back? But I love that while he wanted/hoped she would forgive him and give them another chance, he didn't push - he just wanted her to know the truth about how he felt.

God, they are perfect. And you know, if this is the end of Hanna/Caleb, this would be such a note of grace on which to end it - because she now knows that what was between them was real. Though if it is the end of them, we are going to have nasty nasty words, show!!!

I friend!ship these two so much.

Pretty Little Liars s1, ep 20 - I love this show more and more...

On the Haleb front, ep 20 was pretty much a total roller-coaster - it started so happily and sweetly that you just knew rocks were going to fall. That last scene with them? My heart. The thing is, I totally sympathize with both of them - of course Hanna feels betrayed when she finds out Jenna hired Caleb to get info on her - Jenna is Enemy n1 and Hanna opened up to Caleb the way she hasn’t to anyone else (not to mention he was her first, I think), and to find out he was hired to approach her - well, let’s say that slap she gave to Jenna was pretty justified and so was her feeling of betrayal and anger at Caleb. But if you look at it from Caleb’s side - he was hired to do something pretty innocuous (pass some gossip he overhears) to someone he doesn’t know - and once he realized the information wanted wasn’t some simple girl-fight stuff and once he got to know Hanna/care for her, he quit. And you can see the look on his face once he realizes he lost the one good thing in his life :( So, basically, short version - I want my woobies to kiss and make up, ASAP!!! And be happy the way they were…

“People cross the street when they see me coming, and they think you are trying to frame your brother-in-law. Who else are we going to hang out with?” Oh, God, Toby, it’s official, I love you. I love how he totally can make the understandably freaked-out Spencer smile, even in the middle of her being investigated by the cops. And I love that he totally gives her pointers on how to deal with it (well, he’s got experience) and they are just so ridiculously good together.

I think Spencer and Toby discussing running away was my favorite scene in this episode. I loved it when she asked him what it’s like to run away and he answered “cold.” Heh. I love his sense of humor. But even more, I loved it when Spencer told the story of how she ran away from home when she was seven, got lonely and came home, and her parents didn’t even notice. And his comment “do me a favor, you ever get the urge to run away again, call me first, ok?” with her soft “ok” pretty much killed me. Because that is the thing - Spencer so much needs to matter to someone, and I think Toby instinctively realizes it, and that is why his reaction is so perfect. And I think he realizes it because he so needs to matter to someone too. No wonder her frazzled edges smooth around him - she feels more secure. Just as he can be happier around her, and more secure as well. It’s funny, because that is what they have in common (other than both being framed for a murder they didn’t commit) - unsatisfactory families to whom they do not seem to matter much (well, except for Jenna to whom Toby matters a bit too much, but that’s a whole other can of totally creepy worms).

Some Emily/Paige...I want them to work out.

Pretty Little Liars, s1 ep 18-19: I think I know what shippy heaven feels like!

OK, I am going to get Aria/Ezra out of the way first, because while I like them, they are my least obsessed-over part of these eps. These eps prove one thing - Ezra and Aria are incredibly functional together. Even when they disagree, they make up quickly because they talk it out and then kiss it out :)

Why are they so adorable and make me so happy, why?

HOLY FUCK!!!!! I was totally not expecting this and now I am tapdancing around the room. Or I would, if I knew how to tap dance.

Spencer's parents not believing her and thinking she is mentally ill in the beginning of the ep and then the cops thinking she is a person of interest in Alison's death at the end of the ep - she is pretty much being turned into the new Toby. Yikes. I mean, it's good for an OTP to be in each other's mindset but that's a bit of a horrid way to get there.

And speaking of Toby...

I have a new OTP! I liked Emily/Maya, but Maya’s been gone for a while and I am fickle. Emily/Paige all the way!

It’s official. This show is trying to kill me. And Hanna/Caleb are the sweetest thing ever.

“Why are you still here?”
“Forgot something.”
DEAD. I AM DEAD.

Spencer and Toby playing Nancy Drew is pretty much the most awesome thing that ever awesomed. It also occurred to me that Spencer is what Hermione Granger would have been if she was brought up as a pureblood and her best friend was Draco Malfoy. Tell me you don’t see it :)

Yet more Hanna and Caleb kissing. Ep 19 is really spoiling me. I love how giddy they are with each other.

At some point between Hanna’s Mom discovering and kicking Caleb out of the house (and I loved that he took responsibility and told her it wasn’t Hanna’s fault) and Hanna leaving to follow him, I realized that I am unhealthily invested in this OTP and the show and it went from ‘this is entertaining and enjoyable’ to ‘I am genuinely terrified of anything hurting these people and I can’t take it.’ Not smart, self, not smart.

Oh my God. Oh my God this scene! Where Hanna goes to stay with him (and sets up camp, you go girl!) and actually tells him about fat camp and ‘hefty Hanna’ and when he tells her she didn’t have to tell him, she responds she wanted him to know her. And he tells about his mother, and how he hadn’t seen her since he was five and she dumped him, and the only time he’s heard from her since was one birthday card when he was ten. And it’s clear he wants to go Arizona to find her. And you know, that is the best payment for her revealing her past and vulnerability - he reveals his. It makes me think of Alison’s mantra ‘sharing secrets kept us close,’ but in this case it’s not Alison knowing everything about everyone and using it like a cudgel, it’s both parties revealing emotional secrets to each other, like equals and like people who get under each other’s skin.

Ummmm…ummm, I am sort of having problems breathing. But! They are both super-good at scrabble! And he teases her! And she totally keeps staring at him when he is changing (and all of a sudden I start thinking she’d be nowhere near as interested in clearing his name if he was an obese dwarf :P) and then OMFG they have platonic sleepover on the same bed omfgomfg my kryptonite! ~~Also absabsabsabsabsabsabsabs.~~

“I am sure.”
This was the most romantic, amazing thing I’ve seen all month. And possibly all year. They are so tender and nervous and consumed by each other. And I have officially gone irrationally insane for Hanna/Caleb the way I haven’t shipped since…oh, hell, not since Logan/Veronica, perhaps. If the show ever permanently breaks them up, I might end up in counseling. Oh, and only semi-related: you know, the more this show goes on, the longer it takes me to watch an ep - between capping, culling the caps, posting, rewatching certain scenes five times, it is taking me two+ hours per ep!

After this episode, I have decided to become a Girl Detective. Also, this was ridiculously sexy. I almost had to go and locate a paper bag to breathe into.

I wish I could say I had deep and profound thoughts about this, but seeing that I was too busy stuffing my blanket into my mouth so as not to wake the household with my high-pitched screaming, alas...I do love the way it pretty much was a total surprise to me and yet not at all. I love the way they sort of drift into their own bubble and everything temporarily stops utterly. I love seeing both of them happy because God knows they need it. And I can never get used to Toby teasing or Spencer's little pleased smiles but it's so good.

Hanna has pretty much the best mom ever, since she lets Caleb stay because he has nowhere to go. It's also adorable that he is nervous around her.

Oh, God, I knew I knew things were going too well! Was Caleb hired by A to keep track of Hanna or somehow otherwise involved at some point? And he is quitting, telling him/her/it he can't do it any more which is one of my favorite shippy tropes but makes me terrified because you just know A is going to pay him back (and wreck Hanna's happiness, which she delights in) by revealing to Hanna that he used to work for A. And Hanna, who opened up the way she did, is going to feel completely betrayed. Fuuuuuck, don't break them up, show!

Pretty Little Liars - s1, ep 18. In which I am dead...so dead that I watch only first half of ep

Because I need to post right now!

Some Ezra/Aria cuteness. I confess to losing interest in them - I still like the two of them together and root for the two of them, but compared to the angsty slow burn of Spencer/Toby (who seriously stepped out of a kdrama) and the sparkling irresistible chemistry of Caleb/Hanna, they pale.

I have rewatched the below six times and my brain has melted out of my ears and that is the end of my night as far as anything productive goes. And now I am off to stare at Caleb biting his lip some more…

I was so glad Emily and Toby renewed their friendship. It’s one of my fave things about the show!

More Hanna and Caleb cuteness from ep 18. They are just the most adorable thing together. And I love how she is totally embarrassed about the shower thing, and his little grins…things must catch on fire whenever those two are within ten feet of each other. Oh, and heee, her Mom nicknamed him ‘the Cat in the Hat’ and it totally fits. Heeee.

And my favorite scene of ep 18 award goes to…Hell, was there any doubt? I am so invested in Spencer/Toby, it’s unhealthy. You should have heard the whimpering noises when she touched his hand!
Other things I loved about it:
* That Spencer apologizes for being one of those who thought Toby killed Alison.
* The way Toby is just still so traumatized about everything - being accused of murder, Jenna, Alison’s head games, etc. And yet even though he is incredibly soft-spoken, he has a certain quiet, unyielding stubborness and not giving in.
* Spencer using her brain trying to figure out the possible conspiracy out.
* Hand touching and staring!
GUUUUUUH. Team Spoby all the way.

And now off to bed before the few remaining braincells of mine fizzle out...

Pretty Little Liars - s1, ep 17, in which I enter shipper heaven...

The complete and utterly ridiculous adorableness of Hanna/Caleb in ep 17 of PLL. I just love how functional and happy Hanna is around him - she feels free enough to be both vulnerable around him and to bicker and have this awesome give-and-take banter going. And under his snark, he totally cares - his snark lacks an edge and he totally bailed her and her mother out in this ep. I need them to make out almost as much as I need to breathe.

All I could think about in this scene was: Toby got a haircut! UNF! OK, well that, and the amazing eyefucking that was going on. I am on the good SS Spoby until it implodes under my feet. Seriously, I like Aria/Ezra and adore Hanna/Caleb but Spencer/Toby makes me die.

When Toby tells Spencer the DA is dropping the charges against him, and he looks like he is shining from happiness (which we have never seen before, not even once) and Spencer smiles at the news and their hands and and and and...Guys, I was levitating out of my chair. I know it’s against the laws of physics, but I was. Also, I have to say Toby’s house is totally creepy. It’s like his creepy family hired the Gothic Horror decorator of their dreams (or nightmares). But their hands! And the way his eyes light up! And the way she stares!!!! I think this was my favorite thing all week. Which means either I lead an exceedingly sad life or it was just that awesome. I prefer to think the latter.

I don’t know how many of you watch both kdramas and PLL, but if any of you do, you must admit that this was so utterly kdrama…Oh, and Jenna totally freaks me the hell out, and I totally cheered at Toby’s act of rebellion against her. Though the way she reacts to Spencer being with him, if I were Spencer, I’d triple lock my door and start carrying a glock.

Some pretty Ezra/Aria moments from ep 17 of s1. I confess this ep was mainly all about spoby (!!!!) and haleb (!!!) for me, but these two managed to get their two cents of cuteness in…

Is it wrong that I just want to rewatch ep17’s Spencer/Toby scenes on a loop? (Don’t answer!) I do love how oddly comfortable the two of them are with each other (especially since neither seems to relax easily) and Toby saying that he is still nervous of Jenna but she doesn’t terrify him like she used to = me cheering.

You know, this only semi-related, but I was thinking - Watching PLL clarified something that I’ve been thinking for a while - the reason so many shows are set in high school is because, akin to a period drama, this is one of the very few times in modern life where there is a highly structured environment with disparate people and thus a good source of conflict.

I mean, you are stuck in a particular place and cannot leave it of your own volition barring something drastic - as an adult, your decisions are your own. You can switch jobs, move towns, whatever. Your choice. Not so much when you are in school. Or take a look at the PLL ships - in what other environment would a country-club attending, Ivy League type and the town’s favorite accused murderer ever interact with each other on a regular basis? Or the ultimate sorority girl and a hacker who’s seen a succession of foster homes? (Ironically, Ezra and Aria are the one couple that would be better off outside - I could certainly see them meeting at a poetry reading or similar and really hitting it off). Once you leave high school, society stratifies a lot, unless you live in a twenty-people town.

This was the most hilarious, sexy, adorable moment. You know, out of the three ships, I think, Ezria is the most dramafree and ‘normal,’ which is odd at first glance because of the whole student-teacher thing, but both of them are mature, angst-free, well-adjusted (as opposed to spoby and haleb, where one or both of the partners have issues, insecurity, angsty background, etc). Which is great, because between the three ships I ship, I get a bit of everything. Though I confess to preferring the other two ships because I love my angst.

Every time these two get within ten feet of each other, I get giddy because they are so funny together and the give-and-take is priceless…

That was so Breakfast Club, it wasn’t even funny. Those two just play off each other so well - their scenes are ridiculously fun. ~~I will do detention with you anytime, Caleb!!!~~ Or I would if I were a bit younger :)

I am getting the sense I’ll he capping every scene between Hanna and Caleb. Oh, and when he told her he will think about how she can pay him back (for sabotaging Aria’s Mom’s car and thus saving Aria and Hanna’s bacon)? That was pretty damn hot.

Spencer looking at Toby (who is trying to take care of his vandalized house). And she tells Emily she was wrong about him. Yay! Obstacle of one half of OTP thinking the other half is a killer has been removed.

Clearly, bickering banter = aphrodisiac as far as those two are concerned. Go for it, girl! Hit that like the hammer of an angry god. I mean, that smirk!

Ask me how much I loved this scene. Ask me. As much as A likes fucking with the liars, that’s how much. But they have such awesome chemistry and I love how he is so soft-spoken but intense and how she opens up a bit and actually apologizes, and the chemistry mmmmmmm mmmmm dying. My ‘dramatic angsty relationship’ radar is pinging like mad! Also, mistreated woobies are my kryptonite, and the only thing better are mistreated woobies with a ship! One problem - if one scene got me so wound up, how am I going to survive multiple seasons of this?

Spencer afterwards, telling Emily Toby isn't how she thought he would be. Ship alert!!!

So, in ep 16 of s1 we learn that Caleb is a foster kid who prefers to live in the school rather than go to his foster parents. And clearly has issues about his birth parents. You mean he is hot, snarky AND has woobie issues? JACKPOT! Also, this show clearly knows how fond I am of ‘rich girl/bad boy from wrong side of the tracks’ trope and is giving it to me. Twice! Oh God, where has this been all my life?

So shippy it hurts!

OK, is this show trying to kill me? Seriously. He can’t stay living in school any more and has nowhere to go (his foster parents really must be a trip!) so she offers to hide him in her basement? Ummm, I hope the neighbors didn’t call the cops due to the high-pitched shrieking that ensued in my room. Oh my God. At this point, I want to tell real life to go away, lock myself in my bedroom, and not stop watching the eps until I pass out…

Clearly, I am obsessed with these two. Make his angst better, girl!

This was pretty much the most perfect thing ever. The end. And then I went off to bed before I literally passed out.

Pretty Little Liars, s1, eps 13-14

At this point, I am madly curious as to how/why Spencer and Toby will hook up. I mean, rich and waspy A+ student and the guy who has an ankle monitor and gets ‘killer’ graffitied on his locker? I suppose she could always go for the old-school Breakfast Club rebellion :P

The thing with A forcing Hanna to eat all those cupcakes to get her money back, in light of Hanna’s bulimia issues - that was just horrifically cruel! Of all the four girls, Hanna is the least secure, the most vulnerable, so this was just awful.

Ahhhhhh! Is this the start of Spencer/Toby? I’ve been waiting! I bet it is!!!!! I may or may not have shrieked. Not telling (yes, there was shrieking. I am so excited for this OTP, it's sick. It hits all my kinks). I suppose hot + angsty + she wronged him = total catnip. Heeeee. Go for it, girl!!!!! (On a less giddy note, when people yell at him to kill himself and kids run away when he approaches, and he goes to hide and is sitting there holding himself and shaking - my heart!!!! Poor thing.)

Ezria have the most amazing kissing scenes - they are hot, sure, but they are also so utterly tender. It’s the hands and the way they touch and look at each other. And when he tells her: “Even though this doesn’t look right, it has always felt right, and I will not let him change this into something that feels wrong, he just can’t.”

I love how they don’t even need words to convey anything…

Ep 13 was pretty much a shipper’s dream, and one of the awesome OTP scenes involved Emily/Maya. Grrrrrrr, I hope this isn’t the last hurrah for them!

So, this is Caleb, Hanna's future OTP? I have deep thoughts and they amount to: “Flail flail flail he is fucking HOT!” Also, he is a computer hacker from the wrong side of the tracks. I approve.

I just know I am going to ship Hanna/Caleb like mad. Because their chemistry is ridiculous and they totally argue and the amount of pretty is insane and just - seriously, I am already into them and they barely had any screentime together.

This girl needs her own kdrama!

Ian gives me the creeps. He’s got to be almost twice Spencer’s age and seriously - does Melissa only ever date guys whose ambition is to end up on the next To Catch a Predator?

I love jealous Ezra. Mmmmm! They are so pretty when they angst!

My heart! My heart!!!! My heart!!!!!! He wrote her a poem (oh…) and the angst and longing and anger and the way they look at each other and my heart my heart my heart…

I loooove Emily’s Dad. He is super cool. I want more of him and Emily’s interactions.

Aha! I have figured out why I like Toby so much - he is totally a kdrama hero! :P I mean, let’s count - (1) has evil/crazy/clingy stepsister in love with him (who blackmailed him into sex? Jenna is so kdrama secondary girl. If you have to threaten to tell people he raped you to get him to sleep with you and he is looking forward to reform school to get away from you, you should probably chase someone else. I mean, Jenna, girl, you are hot, you can get dates). (2) wrongly accused of murder; (3) broods and stares a lot; (4) if for not bad luck would have no luck at all. Seriously, dude is starring in his own kdrama. Also, I loved that he sought out Emily and tried to explain/told her the truth before going on the lam. Yay!!! I friend!ship them so much.

Toby continues to prove his kdrama status by being arrested while waiting to say bye to Emily. After a day/week/month/year this epically bad, no way to go but up, for him, I suppose…

I was sure Hanna isn’t dead (I mean, unless all those Haleb vid makers are really good at creative splicing) but damn, A, that was hardcore.

I think I could ship that.

They make the most adorable faces at each other. Seriously - so so so beyond adorable and cute! How can they be so functional despite everything? Seriously. Love.

The scene where Emily came out to her Dad - my heart!!!!

Ezra and Aria awesomeness - when she touches his hand!! And can I just stab Noel in the face for being a blackmailing douchebag?

Yay! Emily and Toby made up! Honestly, outside of Ezria, their cautious friendship is my favorite relationship on the show rn…I wonder if it’s because Emily is the only one of the four I’d want to hang out with myself or because Toby pretty desperately needs a friend. A bit of both, I suppose… (Oh, and Emily's put down of Jenna earlier, when commenting on her and Toby, was the most hilarious awesome thing: "Somebody should have come between you two a long time ago. Maybe a social worker. With a bucket of ice water." LOLOLOL forever.)

She got him arrested so he couldn’t ditch her! Ahahahaha, I think I sort of love Jenna because giving your crush an ankle monitor by turning him in to the cops so he can't leave is so kdrama secondary girl, it’s insane. And she achieves all her psycho goals while blind! And then he tells her: “Even if you chain me up to this porch, I won’t touch you like this again” and she smacks him. These two should be off starring in their own Asian drama seriously. It’s a good thing she’s blind or I’d be locking up all kitchen knives in her vicinity!

Gu Family Book continues its awesomeness.

After watching episode 4 of Gu Family Book and my crush on Kang Chi has grown to alarming proportions. I am pretty much in a perpetual swoon. Oh, and I want to climb him like a tree every time he goes intense. His eyes!!! How does Lee Seung Gi always do it? I mean, I don’t find him objectively good-looking in the least, but the second he is on screen in character, he becomes the most attractive man alive!

I love how fairytale-like they look, I love their chemistry, and I love how LSG can switch from funny to deadly intense in a second.

When Kang Chi was being so badass with the baddie and the entire entourage, not even blinking when surrounded by a ring of sword, I died. Righteousness is hot.

Why are they so cute, why?

This drama is giving me a massive crush on Suzy. She is so gorgeous and her character is so cool and she and LSG have such chemistry!

Shippy perfection. You better give them their happily ever after, drama! Especially when the ending of the ep is so kickass.

Lorenzo/Lucrezia makeouts. I think my brain stuttered to a halt…All that yumminess AND he is a Medici. Mmmmm.

Pretty Little Liars - s1, eps 6-9

First of all, a little rant. So, I am up in the middle of ep 9 of s1 of PLL and I want to rant about the Rosewood police department, which simply must be the most incompetent police department in the country. If I want to commit a crime, I know where I am moving.

* Let’s see, we have a young woman stabbed and strangled. I realize that in this type of show, someone near and dear is most likely involved in the crime but come on - that screams ‘serial killer’ to me - at least as a possibility. Instead the police seem to be fixating on four future sorority sisters to the exclusion of everything else. Ummmm, what? I can think of a few more likely things - like a meteor hitting someone in the head, for example. I am beginning to wonder if the cops think the Scream franchise = real life.

* Toby, Toby, Toby. So the cops think he may be connected to Alison’s death (which at least has the virtue of being mildly more likely than four teen girls who are obsessed with moisturizer and shoes). He disappears and - nothing. They cannot find him. He’s wrecked his motorcycle, so he’s probably on foot. He doesn’t exactly blend into the crowd. He is seventeen. Unless he moonlights as a ninja on his days off, the fact that they cannot locate him is insane. Insanely incompetent, that is.

* Cop dude keeps waltzing around and interviewing minors without their parents’ knowledge and permission, without a warrant, etcetc. Not only is it problematic from a minor-without-parental-consent thing, if the girls put any thought into it, they should just tell the cops they won’t speak to them without a lawyer and there is the end of that.

* Not that the cops are getting much help. I love our four heroines, but good at priorities they are not. I think Alison was a sociopath and good riddance to her, but she was their friend! Their friend who got brutally murdered! Shouldn’t they exhibit more grief and desire for her killer to be caught and less worry about being busted for the Jenna thing, even to the degree of destroying evidence. And that brings me to Jenna - I realize she is not the most likeable person out there, but their little prank blinded her! Shouldn’t there be at least some guilt and remorse for blinding her mixed in with all their ‘she is going to get revenge!’ freakouts? (The same, to a lesser degree, applies to Toby and the fact that he took the fall for their actions).

Anyway, on with the caps...

I know all the actors look like they won’t see 25 again (and I approve of that fact) but the fact remains that they are supposed to be minors. And unless Rosewood somehow managed to escape being part of the United States of America, it is illegal for tattoo parlors to give tattoos to minors. I am left wondering whether there is a thriving underground illegal tattoo scene in Rosewood or whether Toby did it with those fake peelable tattoo things that places like Ben & Jerry’s hand out to their littlest customers :P

Your stepsibling is hot. You:
a. Scrub your brain with bleach for even thinking that. Ugh!
b. I’ve seen Asian dramas. I am a few snowfalls away from starring in my version of BokuSuru.
c. I am too lazy to go outside the house to look for make-outs. Fakecest away!

If you picked (c), congratulations, you are a character in PLL. I have never thought I’d ever have to reference Boku wa Imoto ni Koi o Suru in connection with an American show but OMFG WHUT WHUT WHUT WHUT. Toby and Jenna were knocking boots?!?! And that is how Ali blackmailed Toby into taking the fall for the girls’ arson? (Side note - teens and their lack of proper judgment. Sleeping with one’s stepsis is frowned upon, but it’s not a criminal offense/big black mark on one’s future the way arson is. Ummmm. I think I know which one is a better choice to confess to). I have to say they do not appear in love or even to like each other at all. Hmmm. In fact, she pretty much bosses him around and he puts up with it - are they exes by now? That is why you shouldn’t hook up with someone you can’t move away from…

Aria and Ezra and aaaangst and prettiness in ep 6 of S1. When he tells her she deserves more than being with him - my heart!!!! Though he is probably right, alas...

More evidence that dear deceased Alison was a sociopath...

Girls and their beautiful dresses…(side note: every time we see Spencer keep going on and on about what a freak Toby is and/or that he is a killer who needs to be behind bars forever, I keep going: “Heeeee, I’ve seen youtube vids, you’ll be sticking your tongue down his throat soon enough.” :P)

How to go from going with a date to Homecoming to fleeing from him after believing he is a maniacal killer in thirty minutes or less, by Emily Fields…I suppose Emily-Toby friend!shipping is over? Obviously, she doesn’t get murdered in this ep, nor is he Ali’s killer, but this is going to bit awkward to get over…Noooo, I loved their friendship. Boo!

I am loving Hanna’s friendship with Lucas (I think that’s his name). I am loving Hanna, period. She is the nicest of the girls and is my favorite (the other three rotate for n2 spot depending on the ep).

Ezra, I missed you! Don’t ever disappear for eps again as it leaves me shipless. Though I did feel a pang for how normal Aria and her high school dude seemed to be - things should be easy when you date :(

I am in love with Spencer’s Mom! First she finally told the cop what I’ve been screaming at the screen for the last gazillion eps (about questioning minors without an adult violating rules) and then the scene with her and Spencer. I love you, Mama Awesome!

I continue not to care about Spencer/Alex (so when Ezra was not around and Spencer/Alex were the shipping quotient, that was boooorrrrring). I mean, he’s a nice guy, he’s not hideous, blahblahblah whatever. I just don’t care. I guess this is what happens when you are introduced to a show via spoby videos.

Pretty Little Liars - s1, eps 4-5

The ridiculous adorableness continues. The way he looks at her makes me melt! I love discovering new ships! When they were fighting, I was all :( but then they made up and giddy town, here I come! Fwiw, I think you shouldn’t tell someone their SO is cheating on them, unless you are sure they want to know…false happiness is better than no happiness, IMO.

I totally have a crush! This dude is so my fictional type, it hurts…(I am so predictable). Also:
1. Why would you bully someone who went to juvie for arson? I mean, do you have an insurance scam going so you yearn for him to set fire to your house? (Yes, I realize he didn’t do it, but everyone thinks he did).
2. I totally friend!ship Emily and Toby - though if the best advice you got is not from your friends but from that odd kid who you got stuck with as a lab partner, maybe you need to make better friends than the ones you currently have.

The prettiness of Aria/Ezra in ep 5. I have to say, I wish Ezra would transfer jobs - that way there won’t be any issues with the dating thing (because if you have to hide your GF away, this isn’t good). And how is Aria going to explain A? Because I don’t want my woobies to fight!

I’ve seen Haleb vids so I know these two aren’t the endgame or anything, but I really like Hanna’s boyfriend - he is just so…nice.

The Emily-Toby friendship edition. I kinda want a spin-off about where Emily is living in New York with her awesome girlfriend Maya in a teeny apartment and occasionally hangs out with her geeky, band-listening friend Toby. And maybe gets a sexy tattoo. Though I get the sense Toby is crushing on her which is a really epically bad idea - I want to get into my screen and go “I know you don’t know, but she doesn’t like boys that way, so this isn’t going to work out, sorry.’

Pretty Little Liars - s1, ep 3

Why did I not know about this show sooner? Though I guess it’s good I have three whole seasons to binge on…

Every time I think I can’t ship Aria and Ezra any harder, this show proves me wrong. Seriously, when the two are around each other, puppies are born and rainbows are spontaneously created in the sky. They just shine around each other - their eyes light up and everything feels just a little bit more alive...

I want to take Spencer from her sucktastic family. I also want to ban Wren from coming within 50 feet of her. Just - eeeek. She is too young for you, and you put the moves on her when you were engaged to her sister and you are smarmy. You are worth more than that, girl! (Speaking of being worth more - oh, Hanna, I really want you to get some self-esteem. If a boy doesn’t want to sleep with you doesn’t mean he doesn’t respect or love you - in what warped universe does your head exist? And crashing his car as ‘revenge’ for his being a gentleman - that is the definition of self-destructive).

Oh my God. OH MY GOD. OH MY GOD. You should have heard the lunatic sounds I was making over this scene. It’s a good thing nobody checked on me because it sounded like there was a dying manatee in my bedroom. But the chemistry! And the way he holds her so tenderly and the way she just fits perfectly in his arms and their hands asfgjgkhgkhjhj their hands!!!!!

Ahhh, so this is Toby (for the record, watching Spencer/Toby videos on youtube is what got me to check out this show). I like!!! I like a lot! I mean, his sister is some sort of evil mastermind (and the boss of him, too) and Ali blackmailed him (with what? I need to know) into taking the fall for the girls’ little act of arson which ended up in reform school for him, And he saved Emily from being raped by that scuzzy ex of hers. Plus, the whole tall, dark and brooding thing. I HAVE A RADAR FOR YUMMY ANGSTINESS AND IT’S PINGING!!! Yes, please, show. With a very big cherry on top.

Roswell s1, ep 3; Pretty Little Liars s1, ep 2; Jang Ok Jung ep 3; Gu Family Book ep 3

I rewatched ep 3 of S1 of Roswell today (do you know how it is to stop at just one ep a day?). So much love.

In addition to the sheer perfection that is Max/Liz (there are no words how much I am crushing on the soft-spoken, introverted Max, btw - that is pretty much my RL type and shows do not do it often enough), I do believe this is the start of Michael/Maria, a ship I shipped almost as much as Max/Liz.

I also loved Liz-Maria friendmance (is that a word, LOL)

And there is the whole theme of Max trying to balance the need to move on into the world and find out who/what he is with the need to stay hidden (those dioramas of govt experimenting on aliens is a feared potential reality for him)…

Sometimes shows you used to love years ago don’t hold up on rewatch, but this one so very does.

Ep 2 was so much fun. First off, the bad decision edition.

The proper response to a Peeping Tom is either to call the cops or draw the blinds. Blowing up his house = not a good choice.

Hannah’s boyfriend is hot (and they would have golden-haired babies) but clearly not that into her. I want Hannah to date Self Esteem instead.

There is only one character I dislike so far and it’s Wren (is his last name Cristopher? LOL). Because smarming up to and kissing your fiancee’s sister = ultimate scumbag.

OMFG so many feelings over Ezra and Aria. I want to squish them like the adorable shippy puppies they are. These two scenes just killlllllled me! Especially the little looks OMFG. I never ever thought I’d ship teacher-student outside an Asian drama, yet here we are.

I kid, I kid, this was fucking perfect. Perfect.

The gorgeousness that are Lee Soon and Ok Jung in ep 3 of Jang Ok Jung. It’s like his whole being becomes centered in his eyes (the way he looks at her, as if the world outside her ceases to exist) and he almost stops breathing as if worried he’d wake up…And she makes him smile. Oh, my doomed perfect OTP!

This was the single most perfect thing I’ve seen in a long time. I AM RABID ABOUT THE TWO OF THEM!!!!!!!! Also, Suzy is so gorgeous it’s unreal and Lee Seung Gi, as always, owns every last bit of my heart as Kang Chi.

Pretty Little Liars' pretty little pilot - so addictive.

Seriously. Like chips. You know they are bad for you, but you can't stop!

It took me a bit, but by the end of the pilot I was hooked. Even if I am amused at the fact that these must be the only teenagers in the world who wanted to spend their free time in some dilapidated house out of a horror movie. They are lucky only one went missing and they didn’t all get hunted down by an ax-wielding maniac!

Hmmm, I am getting the sense Emily might not be straight. Pls pls pls tell me she and the neighbor girl (whose name I haven’t memorized yet) are a thing and I am not going crazy!

The proper way to meet your future English teacher is:
a. In class as he takes attendance
b. Yelling at kids from his lawn
c. In a bar when he mistakes you for a college student and you end up doing the Veronica/Logan bathroom reenactment.
Guess what the show went with? For the record, no English teacher I’ve ever been within 500 miles of ever looked like this! I think this Pilot is amusing me immensely. A+++ for the kdrama vibe. Now all we need is stepsiblings hooking up to really make me happy :).

And yet more inappropriate hot-for-teacher Aria/Ezra moments from the Pilot. Seriously, this is so kdrama, it’s ridic! I approve! Go for that extra-credit, girl!

OTP!!! OTP!!!! Somewhere between her kissing him on the cheek goodbye, his grabbing her and pulling her into a mind-melting kiss, and her stroking his hair and walking off as he stairs after her was the exact moment I fell like a ton of very dense and heavy bricks for this couple. Bring it on, you awesome awesomeness! I am going to have way too much fun watching this show.

British fiance of Spencer’s older sister is so smarmy, I am surprised nobody has yet slipped in the oil that he emits from every pore. Hitting on fiancee’s sister is kinda gross.

I think my favorite character so far is the seemingly perfect, rather broken Hannah. It doesn’t hurt that she is ridiculously gorgeous.

Anyway, I have a new ship, even though I am sure it will end badly! Christie/Alak from Defiance, ladies and gents! (Proper post on the show coming). Human/alien AND families that hate each other. Yes pls.

In Roswell rewatch news, ep 2 = mmmmmm!!!

You know what struck me this time? No matter what it is Max and Liz are talking about - Michael, alien hunters, school, etc - their eyes do nothing but adore each other.

Their chemistry is insane and they are functional and Max still owns my heart (when he tells Liz he wishes he didn’t have to be so invisible - my heart. But that is the thing - in finding Liz, he may have brought down all sorts of horrors on his head, but he’s not invisible any more, not in her eyes.)

Last but not least - Da Vinci's Demons! The show appears to be about as historical as a cracker jack box and the show’s Leonardo resembles the real one about as much as I do, but the show is ridiculously pretty, entertaining and addictive. And the pretty! Oh, the pretty!

And the award for the worst drama father of the spring TV season goes to…Seriously, there is bad dads, and then there is ‘kidnapping your kid off the street, sticking him in shackles and collar, beating him up, and then ordering your minions to beat him for an hour.’ Also, nobody is supposed to look this good beaten up and collared. There is something wrong with me!!!

I am totally shipping Leonardo x Lucrezia! Because the pretty is blinding and I am shallow! Plus, body paint! And she is totally smart and working for the bad guys, so I am hoping she will fall for him for real and there will be my Holy Grail - aaaaangst!

I've forgotten how much I love Max and Liz and Max/Liz. I am literally getting giddy watching them. The chemistry, the romance, the...OK, I am turning back into a teen...

Also, I'd so risk the Men in Black for someone who looks like that!

My favorite scene from the Pilot - when he tells her they can’t be together but everything totally belies it - the way he smiles (and bites his lip, awwww), the way his eyes light up, the way she glows - just - guuuuh! OTP!!!

Jung Ok Jung - ep 2

I think I have my spring drama love. Jung Ok Jung has yet to put a foot wrong, narratively, visually, acting-wise, every-other-wise. It even made me like the childhood portions, which never happens!

I am not big on backstories, but Jang Ok Jung surprised me by both keeping it short and sweet and by having the children have a lovely little story together. If anyone ever told me I’d be shipping King Sukjong and Jang Hee Bin, I’d have thought they were insane, yet here we are. I am officially on board - ah, gorgeous romantic period dramas, how I missed you!

Now bring on the adults!!!!

Farscape meets Firefly? One can hope

OMG, how did I not know about SyFy's Defiance, which premieres today? It's from the creator of my all-time favorite show Farscape (seriously - if you put my love for every other show I've seen together, it will still not be as much as I loved Farscape) and is a dystopian scifi Western, which makes me think of Firefly, my second most-favorite show. OMFG I am in HEAVEN.

I have been reading and enjoying Obsidian, the first in Jennifer L. Armentrout’s Lux series - it’s a YA series about a small town girl who befriends a group of hunted aliens who are pretending to be humans. Said aliens include one major hottie.

Sound familiar? The set-up (though not the details) flashed me right back to WB’s Roswell, a show I used to be obsessed with - I still remember staying up literally all night marathonning. I wrote fic and everything (check my 'roswell' tag for evidence of massive fic and meta :P).

I was so so so SO obsessed with Max/Liz - they pretty much hit every kink I didn’t even know I had. Even all these years later, if I had to make a Top 10 TV OTP list, they’d be on it.

Anyway, this is all to say that this LJ is going to temporarily turn into a Roswell central :)

I normally post about books on goodreads, but I had to share this because it's so insane.

So, I just finished Susan Squires' The Burning. OMG. Wow. Just wow. I have to give this book props for the sheer gonzo insanity of the set-up, in which our hero, a vampire who offs misbehaving vamps, achieves his superpowers by controlling and denying his ejaculations. No, I am not making this up - giant chunks of the book involve some seriously serious (and graphic) BDSM training of him by three ladyvamps so he'd be able to be horny and yet not achieve orgasm, which he can then channel into power. If you are into dudes being branded or made to jerk off into blocks of ice, this book is for you.

At one point, bad vamps capture the hero and decide to kill him by having sex with him until he literally explodes from unreleased lust.

I...don't even know what to say to be honest. I spent giant chunks of it giggling. I can suspend my disbelief a lot, but even I have limits (more importantly, none of these characters react to events in any even vaguely recognizable or realistic fashion).

Anyway, the plot (are you really reading this for the plot?) involves our hero, an ancient and guilt-ridden vamp named Stephan coming across our heroine, who is a human who can read everything about a person through a single touch. Tbh, there is a rather sweet love story in this book between our protagonists, and I wish the book focused more on that instead of our hero jerking off into bowls under duress. But then I got this book expecting a romance novel not a BDSM erotica book, so I suppose I have nobody but myself to blame.
