Lobbyist: so much hot manpain should be illegal. It's bad for my health...
[info]filmi_girl came over and I started showing her Damo. We watched two first eps and, my God, I've forgotten how incredible this is. This definitely belongs in my Top 5 kdramas. Prepare for meta and caps (am dling eps for capping right now).

But this post is not about that.

LOBBYIST

LOBBYIST

LOBBYIST.

I love episodes 10 and 11 more than chocolate ice-cream.

What do I love? Maria being tough as nails and successful and aggressive and this not being portrayed as a bad thing. That girl is Hard-Core: she can fight, she can bargain, she can think. YES.

What else do I love? Harry's deep humanity. In a way, he is totally unsuited to his life, the way Maria is not. Maria has a hard edge to her a mile wide. But Harry? He can be incredibly tough, true, but he is a total softie under all that. I loved the scene where the guerilla leader sends him some anonymous young woman to 'take care of his needs' and he just gently buttons up her bra for her, and ends up talking to a mercenary, who thinks him foolishly soft-hearted, that she is too young and he has a sister her age.

What do I love more than those put together? WHEN THE GUERILLAS CAPTURE MARIA AND TIE HER TO A POST AND FORCE HARRY TO SHOOT HER OR ELSE THEY WILL KILL HIM AND KILL HER ANYWAY. Yes, this deserves caps. OMG. I sort of forgot to breathe. That whole scene, and Maria's steadiness, and Harry's desperation and just...GUH.

And how he promises to take care of her (later) and how they escape and how he is shot protecting her and just...

MY FAVORITE SCENE IN THE DRAMA HAPPENS THEN.

First, other scenes.

Harry got taken by the psychotic guerillas who he was supposed to sell guns to. They also, later, captured Maria who was selling to the government. These caps are here mainly to show how insanely hot Harry is and how huge the budget for this thing must have been:

He realizes it's Maria!

And they try to make him shoot her. That was an amazing scene.

He cannot and yet, somehow, manages to buy them a little time and isn't killed for it.

I sort of died here.

So pretty:

Other Guy (love him) prepping the ransom:

He is orchestrating their escape:

Seeing the man who helped them, die:

Being chased:

And shot:

God, I love Maria. She is the one who gets him back up, who takes charge of their escape. She is amazing.

They finally find shelter:

Yes, 11 eps in we finally got to the comfort part of h/c!

They have escaped but of course Harry us shot and barely conscious and she is trying to take care of him and he is in total agony and out of it and she discovers his amulet and she realizes he is her childhood love. And she is tough enough to dig the bullet out of him herself, with a knife, even if her hands shake. And he is screaming and she is holding on to him, and it's all so very awesome.

Amulet!

She is trying to clean the wound:

She tries to soothe him and hold him still:

Bullet digging-out time:

SUCCESS!!!

Yes please manpain, so long as SIG still looks perfect :D

Harry's deep humanity. In a way, he is totally unsuited to his life, the way Maria is not.
True, though I think it wasn't in Maria's nature to be so tough and gutsy, more like she was forced to be like that, especially after she lost practically everyone she cared about.

WHEN THE GUERILLAS CAPTURE MARIA AND TIE HER TO A POST AND FORCE HARRY TO SHOOT HER OR ELSE THEY WILL KILL HIM AND KILL HER ANYWAY.
LOL. Oh yeah. I feel ya. That scene rocked.

Thank you for posting so much prettiness. Do you mind if I snag some pics to make icons? I will credit appropriately of course :)

It wasn't in her nature, I agree, but she certainly adapted easier. Harry is, somehow and despite it all, a romantic. And she is not.

Take all the pics you like and certainly no need to credit!

Glad to spread the photogenic manpain any time!

LOL. I wonder how many retakes they had to take for scenes like that. I mean making sure that everyone still looks amazing despite all the action, sweating and fake blood *grin*

See, all that manpain was worth the wait :D But, saaaaaaaaadly. I think it is the only kissing scene in whole drama, dammit.

Hey, it's still more kissing than in Jumong :P

I like to think there was making out after kissing. Poor Maria had to do things with awful hideous people 'for her business' so it's only fair she gets compensation in the form of SIG :)

Yeah, but you would have thought in a drama like Lobbbyist there'd be more kissing scenes, LOL. Plenty of hugging, though. Btw I reckon you were right about Harry being a romantic, while Maria is more ambitious driven. I think she came to enjoy her power and priviliges, while for Harry it was more of an issue being able to provide for his sister.

Heeee... I entirely agree :D I also like to think they had kids together in the end, hah, LOL.

They would be some severely weird parents :P The kids would be really up on gun care though.

Exactly. In some ways, it's as if traditional gender roles have been reversed a bit: she is the abmitious one and he is the caretaker. You are right, I think it's because for him he always had to be a caretaker (he had his younger sis to protect) but she was the youngest child and never had to take care of anyone...

Heeee... on the contrary. Seeing the ending actually made me think that they would want a totally normal life if they had kids. You know how some parents have hardcore crazy life and though as much as they thrive it, they want their kids to stay away as far as possible from the industry? :D Same feeling I got between Maria & Harry, LOL.

True. Over where I live people usually like that kind of combo (ie. youngest girl and oldest guy, or vice versa) because they think their characters and nature (in general) would suit each other. What got me a bit mad about Maria is how later on she starts to really get into her role as lobbyist and even starts manipulating other people's feelings. It got Harry really concerned, and you can tell by that point that looking after Maria became Harry's primary job, LOL. Kind of heartwrenching, really. I wonder how you'd think of it once you ge to those parts.

Yeah, they probably wouldn't want their kids beaten up on a regular basis (seriously, in 11 eps, there hasn't been a single ep where Harry hasn't been mistreated).

What got me a bit mad about Maria is how later on she starts to really get into her role as lobbyist and even starts manipulating other people's feelings.

I can see the slippery slope start already...she is enjoying it all a bit too much and I can see how with nothing else (she thinks) and a mentor like that, she is becoming more and more hardened.

LOL. So right! I didn't think of it before but yeah, so much bruising up in each ep.

she is becoming more and more hardened.
At first she claims it was to avenge Eva, but seems like the girl came to have a little too much fun :D

This drama is the most 'hurt/comfort' drama I've ever seen.

I am also unclear as to how her becoming a lobbyist was supposed to avenge Eva.

Could be right. I don't think I've watched many dramas of this type. Certainly not with as much bashing up :)

I think she was convinced that if she became a lobbyist, she would be able to reveal the truth behind Eva's murder because she would have the right links in the government (though she worked for a private enterprise, James was really close to the government official, like that guy who played the high minister in Jumong). I just realised that there are at least 3 people from Jumong in Lobbyist (Harry, James, and that high minister). Gee, the talent pool in South Korea does seem pretty limited :D

I agree... I suppose seeing your father die in front of you and your sis being blown up in front of you kinda does that... she's in the business cos she wants to be, i suppose, to find those responsible for killing eva.

harry's reason for working for madame chae is as you say, he wants to protect and provide for his sister. and although he knows that he probably shouldnt be doing half the stuff he's doing, i love that his basic goodness is always there.

I rather love the gender reversal of their roles: she is much more hardbitten.
