Would you like a little more angst with your ship? We got plenty.
As promised, screencaps from ep 16 of Beautiful Days otherwise known as the one where things to to hell in a handbasket.

You know nothing good is coming when the ep opens with our OTP giddy and happy over engagement. By kdrama law, for every action there is an opposite and equal reaction, involving weeping and a sad soundtrack:

He tells her she should call him something other than Director and she asks what. Teasing and happiness ensue. That is how you know there is about to be DOOOOM.

He confesses being worried about whether he can make her happy, and I confess my puzzlement over why the design people thought he needs to have blond hair. He is not a character in Gokusen!

That is her response. *squishes OTP*

Now we begin the slow descent into angst. He sees her at church, waiting for him to show up for a formal engagement. Which he can NEVAH EVAH have now because Evil Father is also a murderer and about to be blackmailed out of house and home.

Here she is with Minji, Hero's sister (who is played by the awesome Shin Minah, the lead of one of my all time favorites, A Love to Kill. Only when she grew up a bit :D)

It's kdrama fashion, guys. Sorry.

Instead of showing up for the engagement, he is drinking himself into oblivion, artistically, instead.

I got a candidate if they ever made a Korean version of Devdas.

Not a good day:

He smashes the mirror (I love the mirror shots and have a billion caps, most of which I am not posting :D):

One way to cool down:

She is waiting for a call:

She got it the next morning and runs to the hotel suite, freaked out of her mind:

Well, he ditched the engagement but at least he didn't look like he had fun :)

That's a hell of a way to decorate a room, woobie! (Btw, is it the same room where he proposed to her at? Ouch.)

She asks her catatonic fiance what's wrong:

Not really a good response:

SUPER AWWWWWW

Once you are all cried out, I suppose you get tired. That's a hell of a way to spend your engagement day.

Awww, don't be embarassed, woobie. Women LOVE alpha men who break down :) I am amused that she knows you get dehydrated after a crying jag. Seriously though, she is such a caretaker by nature:

He tells her he is sorry, and asks her if she waited a long time, and tells her she deserves an explanation but he has none. And asks her to leave.

Only to call her later in the day and end their relationship.

Never fear, it's going to get better next ep.

If by 'better' you mean 'even more angst'

Tune in tomorrow, as BD proves that if the OTP was a puppy, they'd run the puppy over with a truck. Seven times.

Hmmm...that's the heroine in Rondo.

Didn't realize that.

Perhaps Korea should copy Devdas as compensation for the DGCH song.

LOL, this would be pretty awesome. Devdas is depressing enough to be a kdrama.

Please. Even if it were chipper, Korea could find a way to make it angstridden. I think there's a career fielf devoted to just that.

It's really really good, even if it starts slow.

I love your Lobbyist icon!

Once I finish BD, it's going to be my big next marathonning drama (once I catch up on some currently airing dramas and a few I have only a couple of eps to go to finish). Oh, SIG....

Someone should do a post on all the kdrama laws :)

why do kdrama heroines often seem to look a bit older than the heroes?

Is this another kdrama law?

LOL. I don't think it happens very often (other than the quite popular subset of 'older woman younger man' dramas) but yeah, Choi Ji-Woo looks kinda frumpy here. I think it might have been on purpose because she is supposed to be plain, average and domestic. In RL, she was five years younger than the leading actor in this. They basically played their real ages (he was 31 or so, and she was 26).
